Poem: Portals

I look and see and gaze
from one realm to the next
endless paths and places
yet hardly they connect

Do you think that windows
from one house to another
gaze through the glass
and to each other wonder

Or is it only us and we
no there are many others
to think we are alone at all
is a purely human blunder

For I have seen there
beyond the portals
into millions of worlds
the lives of mortals

Yet through and beyond
we cannot see
that which only can be shown
by sky and sea

By those above
and so far below
beyond our portals
to places unknown

To darkened houses
broken temples
ages eons old
beyond our mental

Far and away
from what most claim to know
times and places
outside of our flow

Portals abound
they’ve given us a chance
though due to fear
we’ve refused to dance

We shut away
that which we fear
the great unknown
unseen, unhear

Though it grows lounder
closer too
inevitable as death
for you, too soon

Yet as for I
not soon enough
I want you to see
through this worlds bluff

For we are
so far from alone
in every place
and every home

They are with us
they are watching
through infinite portals
to find us wanting

Yet you turn away
choose to cower
live then in fear
until your final hour

Though I insist
I have not shyed
but looked right back
into blackened eyes

Unflinching, unblinking
I began to weep
losing more of myself
until next again we meet.
