Poem: Don’t Suggest What Nature Will Tell

I’m too twisted up
to write something smart
I’m too frustrated
it aches, my heart

This world drives me crazy
people are sick
yet they think I’m the one
who needs to be fixed

Why do you care
if someone else shoots up
it’s their own life
their own fuck-up

We think we’re responsible
for everyone’s life
yet people still suffer
and live in strife

So who are we really
that we want to lead
do we tell people what to do
or do the people we feed

It’s the former
not latter that is enforced
don’t do this, don’t do that
no civil recourse

So we’ve taken hold
of natural selection
what nature does perfect
we do with poor discretion

Say that this or that
will make you a monster
but by telling someone else
you’re a human no longer

We teach what but not why
and for obvious reason
a control scheme
with no sensible liaison

Complain about phones
social media or pot
you think it’s these things
but it’s really not

It’s the way you learn
the way you’ve been taught
I know you’re a person
you think that I’m not

It’s not good to let people
just do what they want
but have enough money
and that rule is for naught

Get whatever you want
whenever you like
heard of delayed gratification?
no, I’ve figured right

Intelligence is one cure
to damaging behavior
while we can’t save everyone
leave the fools to nature

We’re only human
although we’re hardly that
we’re not masters of this universe
in fact we’re less than a gnat

Yet we struggle and try
to tell people wrong from right
while nature does that for us
each day and night

So please don’t tell others
just what to do
tell them what you can
and let nature tell them the truth.
