Poem: Energy

To and fro, our little cat goes
zipping all around
sitting watching, we both rest
feet firm on the ground.

He is quick, somewhat thoughtless
batting toys about
we are watchful, biding time
while we ponder to what today will amount.

Energy flows, around him fast
racing through his head
we have just enjoyed our breakfast,
a bagel, and slices of bread.

His attitude is contagious,
or perhaps it’s ours that is
it’s hard to tell if we’re adjusting
or if our calm is changing his.

Motion and power within a room
spreads to every corner
the fusion of our energies
makes the whole home warmer.

So whether it’s him, picking us up
or us who are calming him down
there is a careful balance here
but no one is seen with a frown.
