Poem: You Are Me

You are me
and I am you
a world apart
one world is so few

Why do you care
about hair or skin
it doesn’t matter
because we’re kin

Do you honestly think
that your beliefs
make you more a human
than them, or me?

Individuality
is one of our gifts
it’s what makes me, me
and what makes you sick

We all come from the same
this planet called Earth
we’ll all die some day
end up back in the dirt

So who gives a fuck
about countries and lines
let us run amok
and live our own lives

The risks that I take
they’re only mine
the rules that you want
are a huge waste of time

Who are you
that you get to say
if I have to work
or get to enjoy my day

Who are you to tell others
what they can or can’t do
why would you bother
when our years are so few

It doesn’t affect you
but you think it does
everything is intertwined
only when you look from above

See, because us
we’re fucking small
but we think we’re so smart
on top of it all

But here’s food for thought
do birds, plants, or air
cause us suffering
or give us a care?

No they don’t ’cause they’re nature
they just do what they must
they eat and are eaten
an unspoken trust

But humans? We hurt
hurt ourselves and hurt others
to serve what purpose?
to feel how power flutters

A faint intensity
exercising control
having influence, money
but it takes a toll

You forget who you are
you don’t see what you’ve done
after all this time
look how little we’ve come

Because we’re a race
we’re all the same
not in a race
to cause suffering and blame

So cut the fucking shit
we’re smarter than this
we’re supposed to be at least
we’ve evolved from the beast

Yet the lion he eats
each day and each night
while smart powerful humans starve
and amongst each other fight

All the petty human things
we’ve taught and have learned
need to come to an end
the tables must turn

Stop what you’re doing
stop it right now
not to each other
but to the world we must bow

We’re stuck here together
like it or not
so kill me if you must
but it won’t help a lot

You’ll still have to live
you still have to exist
we could work together
and better persist

But you make it harder
on purpose, but why
while millions starve
and millions more cry

The thing is it’s not them
but you that’s funny
the soul needs food too
you can’t feed it with money

You probably won’t understand
I mean, how could you
when you think that we’re different
white or black, red or blue

Well guess what
we all bleed red
and need food and water
and a place to rest our head

You don’t give a shit
you don’t give a care
but expect admiration
now how is that fair?

Well life isn’t fair
is what you’ve been told
but that’s as much of a lie
as it is old

We all had the same chance
to be you or me
before we left our fathers pants
are you starting to see?

You’re only you
because of unseen force
and I’m only me
either of us could’ve been worse

Do you get it at all
because I’m through explaining
we’re stardust on a space rock
but I’m not complaining

Because I don’t hurt people
my life isn’t so grand
that I think I’m better or different
because I don’t understand

You may not see it
but I sure do
you are me
and I am you.
